... visiting Madison Indiana, and the impressive Jefferson County Historical Society they have was a real high point of my trip. My aunt Susie reminded me of all the details on my great grandparents and their history in Madison. Thanks to Ron Grimes in the research library, he found records in the Madison 'City Directories' (the precursor to phone books !) showing first Great Grandpa William Bersch in the 1890 book, then by 1914 the directory shows his wife (Lulu) and their daughter (Marguerite - my Grandma)... and then by 1927 the directory shows my Grandpa (Richard Pinder) married and living at the family home.
My aunt had some great pictures showing Great Grandpa William in the early days of Madison. He was a brick mason, and some of the shots show projects he was involved in and around Madison. In the volunteer fire house picture, he's the man on the left in the center window.
