... I wondered if I might get into trouble in some of the lowlands on this day's route. After a late start, Sunday's clear skys made for some fantastic vistas up on a section of road called Devils Backbone Road. The dirt road south of Fort Ritner was flooded which required a re'route through Sparksville. For such flat countryside, it's amazing how much climbing you actually do! This day shows over 3,000' in just 50 miles! The climbs seem to be mostly short, some steep, and many routes seem to just keep undulating along. One such climb was up N. McKinley road, from the flat bottom farmland up to a community I think was called Walnut Grove.

Riding into Salem I passed some really nice farmsland, following a river on Lakeview Dr. & N. Highland Rd, then headed downtown to the Lanning House bed and breakfast for the night.
