.... I jumped up early and rode north from the fog shrouded Ohio river into a beautifully wooded area. This lovely route took me through Hoosier National Forest. Heading up towards English, I heard there was a diner with delicious biscquits and gravy. A mile out of the way, it WAS some good food, and I begged for a HALF order for the full order price - it was still HUGE !! Not wanting to dally too long (smoking inside restaurants is a bit tuff for me to get re'adjusted to !)..... I pushed on north.
The West Baden Hotel located just north of French Lick was a stop I'm so glad I made. This resort hotel has a renovated central atrium with a free standing domed ceiling - the guest rooms windows face inwards to the dome. Until I saw it myself, I couldnt picture what the locals were raving about. But..they were right ... its an unreal sight!
Arriving late in the day, I spent the night with my cousins up in Orleans, IN. The surrounding area is known for it's many limestone quarries - I think the material to repair the Pentagon after 9/11 came from this part of Indiana.
