The Rides

Day 1 - St George - Bearclaw Poppy. Just west of town this network of fast singletrack with lots of woops is a BLAST. Some guides say to ride it towards the south, then hit pavement back to the parking area. But we found that when you get to the end of the run, and you head to the WEST (right), you'll find a really nice climbing alternative to get you back to the beginning. There is also an area called Stucki Springs further west - next time !

Day 2 - RIDE ONE - Springdale Slickrock Swamp - This is a super fun slickrock course about 1/2 mile south of town. It starts out in the 'Anasai' (sp) housing development, a super posh area where lots are selling in 2005 for around $500k and up ! This trail system was created with help from Dean - a recent bike store owner in town who has since moved on. Unfortunately the folks at the new shop say this trail system may be in danger of being lost - NIMBY mindset as the money moves in! Too bad, its technical and fun and marked very well. Ride it soon. RIDE TWO - not having enough, we headed back to the Goulds Rim trail up above Hurricane. Also an area of nicely networked, fast desert singletrack, this new section followed the rim of the Mesa with beautiful views to the north and west. At the end of a day of fast moving thunder showers, mother nature provided us with a fantastic sunset show.

Day 3 - RIDE ONE - Warner Valley & the Honeymoon Trail. Well, it was NO LOVE on the Honeymoon trail - the area is a BUST. Probably due to the 19 mile dirt road drive, this area is just poorly marked and used. We bailed after tornadic winds whipped up - but did meet a couple really nice tourers from Utah on the dirt road. RIDE TWO - we got our respite on the second ride. We rode the Prospector trail down into the Church Rocks area - now this one is SWEET! Freeway close, and just north of St George in Washington area, you get a fun and fast cross country run down the slickrock known as Church Rocks. The trail goes through a tortoise preserve - but we didn't spot any this time.
